I live on Long Island and I use JFK all the time. There is a new service,
well not a new exactly a new service and it is listed on the
www.nfbtravel.org website. Call TSA Cares. It was also an article in the
Braille Monitor last year. I am not sure Justin if you get the Braille
Monitor.

In any case, and this goes for any airport in the USA, Puerto Rico and the
US Virgin Islands. You call the main TSA Cares number 72 hours prior to
travel. You let the person you know what dates, time and airlines you are
using. They will have a TSA Manager and also another agent meet you at the
airport after you check in. They will help you through security and to your
gate. If you can walk, you will tell them on the phone you do not need
wheelchair, etc. You tell them exactly the help you need. Once you are at
the gate of your airlines. That particular airlines takes over.

Hope this helps. There is more information on it on our website tab TSA
Cares.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.

Subject: [Travelandtourism] JFK Airport

Hi All,

Hope this message finds you well! I was wondering if any on this list have
experience traveling through the JFK Airport in New York City? I was
curious to see what options were available in case my schedule would allow
me to go to the NFB National Convention & the World Blind Union General
Assembly & since I live in Rochester, NY many of the selections would be
stopping at the JFK Airport.

Thanks in advance for all tips on the accessibility of this Airport!

Justin Young
