Yes, a polite request for help can work well. On some travel sites
like Expedia, it seems like there's a box you can check if you want to
request assistance ahead of time. If you plan your trip with a travel
agent, you could indicate that you would like assistance with the
passport kiosk and the forms. The kiosks must be frustrating. I
haven't traveled internationally since they have become popular. But
when it came to filling out the customs and immigration forms on the
plane, a flight attendant came by and handed them to me and asked if I
needed help with them. I politely accepted that help and it was a
quick process.
