That sounds like lots of fun. You can do everything your sighted peers can do. I was in a group of instructors that were taken out on a camping adventure. While under sleep shades, everybody unloaded the vehicle, set up the camp site and built a fire. My task was to gather firewood. The trainer gave me information about where to go. I took a bucket and off I went. I had a blast.

I also was a Girl Scout Leader for 6 years. My assistant leader and I would take our girls camping. I did as much as my assistant would do.

Ok, now for a little help. Be willing to put yourself out there. Take the initiative to take on task. Ask questions to get the information you need to do or participate in the task. Part of your task is to make your friends comfortable and have confidence that you can do. You may have to be insistent. Tents can be simple pup tents or something as big as a 3 room family tent Rake the area for the tent. . Grab a corner, find the grummet and drive in the stake. Check out the poles and learn which ones are support poles and which one is used for the roof. Do you know how to tie knots? You will need to tie the support lines on most tents but you need to be able to untie those knots to take the tent down. Smile!

If you want to help with the food prep, be part of the food organization. Mentally map the camp site so you can navigate gracefully. Pay attention to your environmental sounds. These sounds will help you keep oriented. Use your cane

Have fun!
This is a small list of things you can do but I didn't want to write a camping guide here on list.
Hahahaha!

If you have specific questions, just ask. If I know the answer, I will share.

Take care!
Happy camping!

Sent from my iPhone Hey everyone. I’m going camping this weekend with a few others and I wanted to see if it’s possible to learn how to do any of the things such as setting up a tent or building a bonfire as a visually impaired or blind person. I love being able to challenge myself and even though I have people with me I’m really curious. Please send resources, tips or advice. I tried Google searching but nothing has really came up.
