[VAGDU] intro

Hi Everyone,

My name is Annette and I am a member of the Fairfax Chapter. I’ve been a dog guide user for almost 34 years. I am currently between dogs. My previous dogs have been from Guiding Eyes and Guide Dog Foundation. I’ve been through just about every dog guide training format, 4-weeks, 3-weeks, home training, and the more recent 2-week training that many of the schools are moving to. I did not think that I would like the 2-week training schedule, but I really did. There was very little down time and there was very little “hurry up and wait”. The downside was that I did not get as much reading and knitting done. I guess that I should not consider it a downside, but rather the elimination of a perk. I’ve worked Labradors and Sheppard’s. My last 2 were Sheppard’s. I’m considering submitting my application for a new dog in early 2018. I am not fond of training in the winter.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone on the list.

Take care,

Annette

Hello, Robert and all:

I am Angie, and I live in Fredericksburg. I am currently "between dogs." I actually am taking an extended guide-dog hiatus, but I do hope to work with another guide someday. My first guide was Glaze, a female yellow lab from Guide Dogs for the Blind (San Rafael, January, 2001). My second guide was Yani, a female black and tan German Shepherd from The Seeing Eye (January, 2008). Yani retired in the summer of 2016, and sadly she passed away a few months ago because of liver cancer. I have a six-year-old son who has developed a dog allergy, so it may be a little while before I get a new dog. But when I am ready, I am going to investigate the possibility of working with a standard poodle. Thank you, Robert, for creating this list. I look forward to reading everyone's posts.

Best regards,

Angie Matney

Hi,

My name is Jessica Diaz. Most probably know me. I retired my first guide from GDB a male yellow lab named Saunders at the beginning of Oct. I’m so glad we have a mailing list. Currently I am waiting for a call from GDB or GEB saying they have a match.

Jessica
