SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE BULLETIN NO. 09-3

U.S. House and Senate Economic Stimulus Bills Moving Quickly

Massive economic stimulus packages are rapidly making their way through the
U.S. House and Senate. NAMA is following all the developments and
considering ways this legislation might help the vending, coffee and
foodservice industries

On January 22nd the House Ways and Means Committee approved a $275 billion
measure (H.R. 598). This bill is expected to be combined with recovery
package components from other House Committees into H.R. 1, the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act for consideration by the full House of
Representatives next week. Today Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max
Baucus unveiled a similar package of tax cuts and incentives aimed at
boosting the struggling economy. The Senate package is expected to be
considered on January 27.

Specific tax incentives for business are under consideration in these plans.
What's being proposed is that businesses, large and small, be given tax
incentives to invest in plants and equipment. This, in turn, is expected to
help business expand to hire new workers, strengthen the economy and create
new jobs. Emphasis is being placed on creating new, green jobs by making
investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

As these developments progress NAMA members have an opportunity to do
strategic marketing and sales planning to take advantage of where the new
jobs will be created and what kinds of services member companies can offer
in these areas.

NAMA will provide members with continuing information as this legislation
moves forward.

Please refer questions to Brian Allen or Danielle Del Carlo in the NAMA
Headquarters Office, Tom McMahon in the NAMA Eastern Office, or Sandy Larson
in the NAMA Western Office.
