[vendtalk] new money

This could happen, but in all vending facilities, or at least it could or
should be, a note teller in them. That way you know what currency people
are handing you. There is also a certain amount of trust in our customers
as this is a bit different from businesses on the street. I see the same
customer sometime 4 or 5 times a day. So we are more a part of a community.
So the chances of cheating are less.
As far as the lawsuit, the Department of the Treasury lost their case last
May and I have not heard of another appeal, so they are probably in process
of looking into an acceptable change of currency that will work for
businesses and the blind that brought the lawsuit.
I think the NFB's position has been misunderstood as it is in many other
cases. I have seen quotes and was quoted myself by Associated Press that
the change isn't the problem, but the fact that it was brought on as a
discrimination case. My opinion would be that blind people being denied the
use of money would be discrimination. One of the judges was quoted as
saying, just because the blind can use money is like saying a person using a
wheelchair can drag themselves and their chair up stairs rather than using a
ramp. This is like comparing apples to oranges.
Anyway, arguing about it solves nothing because the case hasn't been
appealed as far as I know.
