Subject: [Nfbnet-members-list] Learn about accessible vote-by-mail and absentee voting at the 2020 NFB National Convention

Learn about Accessible Absentee Voting During the 2020 National Convention of the National Federation of the Blind

As the coronavirus pandemic continues across the United States, voters are concerned about the potential for exposure to the virus at their local polling place. Absentee voting is being offered by many states as an alternative to in-person voting, but the paper absentee ballot is inaccessible to blind and low-vision voters. Three sessions during the 2020 NFB national convention will show you how electronic ballot delivery systems enable a blind voter to mark their ballot privately and independently using a computer and access technology.

July 14, 7:00 - 8:30 PM—ELECTRONIC BALLOT DELIVERY: HOW DOES IT WORK

The coronavirus pandemic has caused many elections to be moved to all vote-by-mail. Learn how vote-by-mail can be made accessible through demonstrations of three of the most commonly used electronic ballot delivery systems.

July 15, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM—DEMOCRACY LIVE: Accessible At Home Voting

Accessible vote-by-mail is the fastest growing method of voting in the United States. Come learn about how it works and see how you can ensure equal access to voting safely and securely from home. The Democracy Live OmniBallot will be featured in this session.

July 15, 5:00 - 6:00 PM—ACCESSIBLE VOTE-BY-MAIL: ORIGINS AND DEMO

Hear about the origins of accessible vote-by-mail, the process of ballot distribution, and screen reader support and security. See a demo of accessible ballot features. This session will feature the Five Cedars electronic ballot delivery system.

After convention, don’t forget about the free voting-related resources that you can obtain from the National Federation of the Blind! The Accessible Vote-By-Mail Toolkit, The Blind Voter's Guide, Blind Voter Registration Drive Guide, the Voting Guide for Young People Who are Blind or Low-Vision, and Blind Poll Worker Recruitment Flyer are all available in both English and Spanish. Files of these documents in MS Word and BRF can be downloaded by visiting our <https://www.nfb.org/programs-services/center-excellence-nonvisual-access/national-center-nonvisual-election-3> Voting, Accessibility, and the Law webpage. You can also order hard copies of these documents by calling the NFB Independence Market at 410-659-9314, ext. 2216.
