[blindkid] Cane Travel for 4 year Old

Lesley, thanks for the advice.

Jonathan actually prefers not to have his cane, so I am not sure that
would work. Jonathan has light perception only but manages to get
around very well. He has had his cane for over a year, and in the
beginning it slowed him down so he did not like it. Changing to the
ball tip helped, for a while :)

He does get O&M once a week from a fantastic instructor. We are at a
loss as how to break this habit. I think he wants us to take it
away, and that is why he does it. I don't think he has learned the
benefit of having a cane.

Debi

Hello Debi,
Yes my daughter did this & sometimes when she is mad she still does.
When she was younger we took it away & told her her cane was not to be
used that way & when she can use it the correct way she can have it
back. Her school also follows this rule. It took time but she is alot
better now.
