Debi,
Kristy was the same way & she is just now starting to trust her cane & use
it to guide her. Before it was like it was a pain in the butt for her to
have to bring it but I still reminded her over & over to bring it & use it &
why she needed to learn to use it. If he feels that way like Kristy did then
what about doing what I did? When she threw it or used it to hit people or
slammed it into the glass door in the freezer section at wal-mart & ithe
cane was not taken away she had another privilege taken away like playing
computer, V-smile, watching cartoons for the day etc. I stuck to the
punishment & didn't give in & when she hit someone with her cane or slammed
it on the ground or busted the end off she had something taken away & she
was asked why & she had to explain why something got taken away. She caught
on. But all kids are different. If that does not work- & you have to stick
to it for a few months like I had to with Kristy- then maybe he is just not
ready for a cane & does not really understand its importance of it. If you
know he will need it then its worth the fight to get him to learn to use it
the right way.
