[blindkid] used Perkins Braillers

For the best USED Braillers go to http://www.braillerman.com/ and get one from him.  They are about $300 or so depending on how much work he did to them to get them working again, how new they are, how much he paid for them, etc.  You can email Alan Ackley at  aackley at braillerman.com to find out if he has any in stock to sell.  He is the only one I go to to fix my Braillers, buy good used one.  When he worked for the Iowa Commission for the Blind, one of his jobs was to do all the repairing of Braillers there and frankly, I don't know how many years experience he has.  Anyway, I do trust him and highly recommend him.

You may also want to call FBC and see how they can help you. I've
noticed they're working with adults now as well as children. They
may be able to put you in touch with someone who is no longer using
theirs. Do you know Marc Schmidt? He's pretty involved with both
NFB and FBC. Hey may be able to send you in the right direction.
If you need his e-mail just let me know. ;o)

Lenora--wow, really?  I'll check to see if I can get a similar arrangement
hrough our school. That'd make it seem a lot less risky!

Sometimes sellers simply don't know how to tell if it's working or not.

You should be able to get it repaired for free. Call the school and ask
where they send them for repairs and how long it takes to get them
back. Here in FL, they say 6-8 weeks for repairs, but when we send
them in through FSDB, they come back in just a couple of weeks.

Lenora--thanks!  I'll give that a  try. I've checked ebay, and there is one
here...it's up to $152 I think, but it's sold "as is," and the seller
oesn't know if it works....

  Hi Lynda,

If I'm remembering correctly, you're in AZ? You may try contacting your
local Lion's Club to see if they are willing to donate one. The Lion's
Club
  in
Gilbert donated a Perkins Brailler to Eric when he was in 1st grade.

Also, one of our moms found one on eBay a few months ago. Although I don't
remember exactly what she paid, it was a pretty reasonable price.

  Hi all,
I'm sure this has been asked before, so please forgive yet another query,
ut is there anywhere that sells used Perkins Braillers at a reasonable
(ok,
emi-reasonable at least) price?  The summer looms and our Perkins loaner
nd BrailleNote got returned to school yesterday.
  thanks,
