[blindkid] Low-Cost Book Recommendations

Hi all,
I am on another listserv for parents of blind children and a mother
recently posted that her 3-year-old daughter is unable to get more
than a half-hour per week for blindness services (TVI and O&M
combined) because her daughter has some usable vision (20/200) and the
TVI thinks she doesn't really need services. The mom has already
purchased a cane for her daughter, so I suggested she look at some of
the books and articles by Joe Cutter and others about early childhood
O&M and ways that parents can teach it themselves without relying on
the school. I also referred her to the POBC division in her state (PA)
and she has contacted them. However, she said that she was recently
laid off and would like to find literature that is free of charge or
low-cost. Do you know if it is possible to get books by Joe Cutter or
others with similar philosophy from a lending library or other
low-cost resource? Do you have any other suggestions I should pass on
to this mother?
Thanks!
Arielle
