Hi Eric,
I have a 15 year old blind son who is very into programming. Unfortunately I am just getting to your email after my son, Michael, has left for school for the week. When he returns home this Friday, I will ask him to respond to your question. Michael has learned a lot by listening to pod casts and magazines related to computing. Since he has this interest and there is frequently someone off-loading an old pc he has been the recipient of several well-used computers and peripherals. Michael likes to remove windows and put Linux open source-ware on his computers. I believe that he has found some open-source ware more accessible than windows.
I'll ask Michael to reply to you, Jennifer Duffell-Hoffman

Hi All,
I have a 6th grader who is really into technology.
Does anyone have a few good resources or book recommendations on beginning
programming?
Thanks
Eric
