We tried out the TypeAbility program too. My daughter didn't like it as well as TTT. She said the jokes got old an were too corny, but you could install this one for free and try before you bought it. Interestingly, the demo lets you launch it 15 times. You can burn up those launches in a day if you keep quitting, or you can potentially leave the machine on and the program running for weeks or months without using even a second launch.

If you like it, I would encourage you to pay for it, and after the test launch count is consumed you will have no choice if you want to keep using it, but I very much like the idea of seeing if these programs work in a stable manor on your platform and with your operating system before you throw $100 or more at one. This is basically the same as many shareware programs, like I mentioned before.

TTT was bought to our attention on the exhibit hall floor at the National NFB Convention some years ago. I think it may have been in the Freedom Scientific booth. Can't swear to that, but it was not their own booth. The particular machine running the software seemed completely stable. That's the real key with software written by smaller companies. It is improbable that the designers can test the software on all potential hardware and software combinations, so what may be rock solid on their main PC in their office may have a ton of undisclosed issues. I have seen similar issues countless times in designing web sites, and the sites are probably less susceptible to these issues between systems (being browser-based) than a freestanding application such as TTT or TypeAbility.

Incidentally, my complaint about TTT before had little to do with having to pay for the call. (Many of us now have no toll charges for such long distance calls anyhow.) To be clear, it was the "you've called the wrong number" and hanging up behavior and other rudeness on the phone and with email support as well. In fact, I don't believe there was even a toll number included in their so-called "manual". I hope they have improved since I dealt with them, but if it is any indication, the Marvelsoft web site looks virtually unchanged.

I'm something of a "computer guy" and the person at Marvelsoft treated me as basically a clueless computer novice because I needed help from him. If I were less tech-savvy than I am, I can't imagine how irritated I would have been with the guy. I have always treated my clients and customers with respect. I expect the same from people I give my hard-earned money to.
