hi,
my goodness. are you saying braille readers are leaders for children was
stopped? I knew the adult program was, but the kids one, well that's news to
me.

I hope it comes back.

Dr. V gave good reasons for its existence.

Ashley

Dear Rob, Nicki, & All,

I whole-heartedly agree with Nicki & echo her sentiments.

The Braille Readers Are Leaders contest was, in my opinion, one of the
best, most functional & most motivating early braille literacy initiative
programs out there.

I know that my kids & many others really looked forward every year to
November 1st, the start of the contest. I am ever-so-grateful that my boys
were able to both enjoy & benefit from this NFB program’s efforts for so
many years.

Participation in the contest lead to real-world tangible results.
Especially early on, in the beginnings of their independent-reading phase,
each of my boys made very noticeable strides each year in their reading
fluency over the 2-3 month contest (length of contest varied over time).

I know that for some families, participation in the contest was the first
exposure to the NFB.

The fizzling out of the Braille Readers Are Leaders has left a void that is
waiting to be filled.

It's was & still can be a win-win-win program: a golden baton – a baton
than is waiting for someone to pick it up & carry it across the finish
line.

Importantly, the potential beneficiaries are the potential future members &
leaders of the NFB.

Humbly yours,

The father of 2 braille-readers
