[blindkid] Jaws training

Great. I really recommend looking into other blind comp users because they know their tools really well and because they may be able to help your kids get more excited about learning new tech than a teacher (who doesn't use the tech herself) could.

Also, like someone else said, Denise's site is really good for online tutorials.

If you're open to online training, my fiancé is an experienced JAWS trainer and great with kids. We live in the Phoenix area though so that may not be as fun for your kids as in-person learning. Only you would know if you think that might work for them. Feel free to email him at Darrell at blindaccessjournal.com if you're interested.

Lastly, do you know if you have a local NFB chapter where you live? That could be a great source for finding local blind people who could teach your kids about JAWS. I Google searched just now and couldn't find a Raleigh NFB chapter, but here's the info for the state affiliate that I found. If you contact the state president, she could tell if there is local chapter or local NFB members.
NFB of NC: Sharon Weddington
Cell: 704-302-7308
 E-mail: weddington.sharon at gmail.com
 Mailing List Server: http://www.nfbnet.org/mailman/listinfo/nfbofnc
 Web site: http://www.nfbofnc.org/.

Any really good JAWS instructor, however you find them, will be able to help your kids get excited about computers. It is difficult at first because of all the keyboard commands, but it becomes easy quickly the more you use it and when you start building mastry.

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Allison

My kids are 8 and 10, we live in Raleigh NC area, my 10 year old really needs to get on the ball as we she will be entering Middle next year, although she could use her iPad for almost everything they do here at the middle (I'm a braillist at the middle). I do know some blind adults/young adults, I will look into that option!

Thanks,
Traci
