[nabs-l] Revisiting idea of division for students with multipledisabilities

Hi Carly,

I don't think I agree that the NFB believes in downplaying
blindness or in blending into the masses. If we believed that,
there wouldn't be such a thing as "the organized blind." No one
is suggesting segregating people with multiple disabilities into
a special division; the idea is to create a space where people
with multiple disabilities can address the issues that matter to
them while still participating in the Federation and in general
society. All the reasons you give for not creating a new
division if you follow them through should lead to there being no
federation either.

Best,
Karl

Good morning, Jahmal and List,

Personally, as someone with blindness and brain damage,
I
don't think further isolating us multiply handicapped people is
a
sensible way. I mean, isn't a teaching of the Federation's, to be
counted amongst the masses, with the Federation's insisting that,
blindness is "just a characteristic?" To totally downplay it? We
appreciate the same thing as "regular" blind people. We would
appreciate our multiple handicapped-ness downplayed, in much a
same
way. Definitely not a special division to glorified our double
handicappedness.
for today, Car

!
Hello,
I myself don't have multiple disabilities, just blindness, but
I'd
be more than happy to help such a division out and advocate for
those people.
Some of my close close friends are multiply disabled, and I have
a
heart for that kind of advocacy.
If anything happens, let me know.
Jahmal

Good evening all, I hope everyone is doing well after
convention.
A few months ago there was a thread about starting a division or
group of students who are interested in advocating for people
with
multiple disabilities, whether they be intellectual, physical,
or
mental. Is there still interest? I'm still interested but was
wondering if there are members who would like to have a
conference
call to further discuss ideas. Thank you for any responses.
