[nagdu] Mexican attitudes towards blind people

Hi Cheryl E.,
I also live in a fairly Hispanic neighborhood and I don't really have much
problem with them disliking my dog. Most of the time, they're saying,
"Oooh! Perro!! Wow! Wow! (Spanish version of Bow Wow)" or "Ooooh! Perrito!!
(Puppy!) They say this to their kids. Very few of the Mexican kids run up to
play with my dog like the white, American ADULTS do! Generally they like
Landon.

I have seen some of the same reactions as you describe with some Black folks
as well. I think it all has to do with people's socialization with dogs in
the first place and their early experiences with dogs as well. I get more
shrieks from Muslin Somoli women more than anyone else. I don't think they
have pet dogs in Somolia or in many of the Muslim countries.

So, these are all just people who have not grown up with dogs as we do in
this country. I respect them by keeping my dog close to me when around them
on the bus - easy to do because they move to another seat on the bus! I
generally have no real problem with anyone around here regarding my dog
except for some ethnic restaurants.

Lyn and Landon
