Hi Ava,
It sounds like you have to be firmer with your family. I would keep Cocoa with you as much as possible. Just keep reminding your family Cocoa is a guide and not a pet. As far as barking goes there must be a reason. Either someone is there , another animal or Cocoa is trying to get attention. To stop Cocoa from stealing food you can set a mouse trap and the snap scares them. I had a friend who had to do that and her dog stopped stealing food.
