I laughed so hard at this!  My dog Doc has been a sneaky food stealer from the very First Day i got him.  I received in home training from SE so i had to stay in my apartment for a week until the trainer said we could go outside and walk without her- it sounds really silly now, she even took the harness with her.
So i microwaved a pizza, put it on my desk went to get a drink from the kitchen and came back to an empty plate.  That was 8 years ago and he's still a counter surfer.
My bread - which he LOVES is in a bread box on my fridge because he could open it lol.
So i hear ya!
