[NAGDU] Undercoat brush

Our Silkens, Kira and Metukah, shed. Metukah, has a cashmere soft substantial undercoat and sheds big time. We bought a knockoff of the furminator brush that is nearly identical, but was twenty bucks instead of forty. It really gets in and grabs that fur out.

Here’s a happy accident benefit… From the nearby the california wildfires, we have an influx of animal life. They’ve brought fleas. We won’t use chemicals; instead we use food grade diatomaceous earth and flea comb at least once a day. That’s how I discovered that a good flea comb works almost as well for undercoats! Cat flea combs are nearly the same but have shorter teeth - not enough for a dog with much of a coat. Dog flea combs have longer teeth. You have to get the dog kind. Repeated strokes really gets a bunch of undercoat! We do this indoors mostly. The trick for fleas by the way, and also for not getting a bunch of fur flying around, is to instantly dip the comb into a big bowl of water. Even if you comb in multiple passes, this amasses a bunch of undercoat in the comb, fleas get trapped inside, in time to get it underwater before they figure which way is out. Whether one good pass or multiples, if you are fast in hitting the water, a flea won’t have time to jump off the comb, and drowns in the water. The fur of course, gets clumped in water and so doesn’t fly around. We prefer a comb with a handle. You just use your thumb on the same hand to flick the comb clean in the water. A tiny bit of dish detergent - only one drop in a whole bowl of water- so that it won’t mess with the dog’s chemistry - will ensure that fleas can’t break the surface to climb out on the rim and will drown. Good luck!

But that doesn't seem like much water. The vet says around 7 cups of water a day, so I guess that breaks down as I've said. Just doesn't seem like much, especially spread out in his dish.

This combination has been a life saver and as long as i don?t forget to giver her pills we don?t have any problems. I hope your vet can come up with another solution that works.
