Hi Lisa,

Wishing the best for both of you with this. Swap was able to work another 2.5 years after the diagnosis of his first cyst. We monitored him every 6 months with the veterinary ophthalmologist. Even after he retired, though he did develop glaucoma about a year into his retirement, it was easily controlled with drops and his eyes were fairly stable, though lighting changes bothered him a lot.

I had to end his guiding career when I noticed signs of him not seeing as well as he had in the past, missing doorways, having difficulty with lighting changes, etc. It’s a heartbreaker but at least with Uveitis, it’s not always horrific.

Luckily, neither vet feels this is an emergency issue, which is a good thing.?? Paige has an appointment in late November with the Veterinary Ophthalmology department at the University of Illinois' veterinary teaching hospital.

Unless I'm mistaken, a dog missing an eye wouldn't be able to guide effectively, though it can still live a normal doggy life.?? If this is the case, I can at least be assured that Paige will be happy as a pet.?? I already have a home lined up for her if this happens.
