There's a very interesting document on the kmetro.org website with a pretty sweeping list of proposed changes for routes. There's a lot of good ideas here (Sundays, anyone?) and of course some that would be unfortunate. Not sure how packed the agenda is for Thursday, but it may be worth talking about. The first round of changes would go in in the fall of 2010 and there will be a public hearing before anything happens.

A couple of examples (there's many more):

Christine et al, they are proposing cutting Oakland evening service due to low ridership. I can't say I disagree with this idea since those busses are usually empty, but I wonder if it would be worth maintaining service to the MCBTC through downtown via one of the other routes.

Tim/Jackie, they're proposing cutting out Kalamazoo Central from the West Main route and adding the Wal-Mart. That one totally makes sense, as the side track to the high school adds a few minutes of extra time.

Longterm they're proposing later and Sunday service for about half of the routes including Westnedge, West Main, and Lovell, which would be totally awesome. Also, 15-minute campus service during the week.

The Portage routes would be totally redone and have more transfer points to the Kalamazoo routes.

It's worth taking a look if you ride the bus at all, since it will have a direct effect on us in the future. I'm sure these ideas will change a lot before they're implemented, but it's exciting to finally see some real momentum toward change for our transit system.
