Hi Elizabeth,
Once you have NVDA loaded, and assuming that your NVDA key is caps lock, you can hit caps lock + n to bring up the NVDA menu.
Arrow down to preferences, hit return, arrow down to speech, and hit tab to visit the various options. A not to bad voice is the Microsoft
One Core Mark voice.
If you want another voice, go to the extra voice web page discussion at
https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/wiki/ExtraVoices
You can find the eloquence voice there along with other voice options.
You will probably have to pay around $100 for one of these voices.
I use a Nuance vocalizer voice known as Tom.
Note that the NVDA menu contains the users' guide which has a voice discussion in it.
