Actually it can since readers don't expect something raised on the back.
Better to put it on the front where there is already embossed information.

I stick a small piece of dymo tape on the back of the card.  This tape is
embossed with the name of the card. I usually abbreviate the name.  The tape
does not interfere with the use of the card.

I only carry one card of each brand, discover, master, visa. I notch the
left and right edges; for master I put a not near the top and bottom of the
left side, and top on the right side...like the Braille letter "m". Ed
