> VRATE is less than two weeks away and there’s a great opportunity for Federationistss. In order to show a positive side of blindness and to give our members a chance to volunteer for  and contribute to the largest blindness technology expo in the southwest, we have created jobs for our membership. We hope very much to get all of these filled. As a reminder: VRATE will take place on November 16 at the Glendale Civic Center. Volunteers may work from 7:30-4:00, but of course, there will be shifts and different schedules.
> Please see the job descriptions below:

> Room Host:
> These volunteers will be responsible for greeting guests as they enter into the speakers rooms, as well as making sure the speaker has everything he/she needs.  There are various speakers at once and this will be the majority of the jobs. In most cases, the room host will welcome folks in and introduce the speaker before they take the stage.  The host will also be responsible for communicating with VRATE staff. The room host will act like an usher, making sure the room is filled from front to back, rather than having folks sitting everywhere. Volunteers must have high communication skills, as well as dress professionally. Essentially, these are like Marshals at our conventions.

> Registration desk attendees:
> Volunteers will sit at the front desk and sign folks in/ as well as gather registration information. It is vital that volunteers know how to use JAWS or NVDA proficiently, as they will be using a laptop. Volunteers will also be responsible for communicating with VRATE staff. Registration volunteers will also hand out materials to attendees. It’s important these volunteers must come dressed professionally, as well as demonstrate great people skills.
>  
> Low Tech Demonstrators
> These volunteers can bring gadgets from home, or borrow from people who bring extras.  We will have a demo room set up so that individuals who are new to blindness know there are things out there that can assist them at home.  Stuff like talking clocks, blood pressure monitors, glucometers, kitchen tools, games, etc.  Whatever you think is cool and interesting!  Please bring it in and agree to at least a half hour as a demonstrator.
>  
> FAR App Volunteers
> These volunteers must be tech savvy.  They will assist folks to download the FAR App, which gives attendees access to beacons throughout the Civic Center and downtown Glendale.  They can find out which presentations will be happening in each room, they can read restaurant menus, they can locate exits and restrooms, and much more.
>  
> General Volunteers:
> These volunteers are responsible for various tasks throughout the day. These need to be flexible and able to adapt to many situations. This may include: helping exhibitors in the exhibit hall, giving directions, filling in at the “show and tell” area, making announcements, helping usher for the keynote presentations, ETC. These volunteers need to be great communicators As well as dress professionally.
