> NFB National Convention:
>
> President Brad Kuhn asked those who attended the NFB 2019 National Convention to share comments about their experience and observations. Many found the venue to be distracting, commenting that it was too big; too much walking; too scattered and disorganized for people with physical issues. Also, they experienced various degrees of assistance, ranging from helpful to rude. Others stated that their “NFB philosophy battery” was recharged, by the challenge of navigating Las Vegas and the convention venue; by receiving a Membership Coin distributed at the Arizona Caucus; by attending general and special sessions, such as the National Board and Resolutions Committee meetings, and working at the Arizona table in the Exhibit Hall.
>
>
>
> Brad shared the communications and logistics challenges he and Carrie experienced, during their trip back to Phoenix, with the pre-arranged transportation service. In addition to making key recommendations to improve future transportation service arrangements, Brad’s and Carrie’s experience sets the stage for an NFB philosophy discussion, focusing on a real life situation that challenges our comfort level, as blind people. By discussing what was done, and what could have been done, presents the opportunity for each of us to determine how our thoughts and decisions line up with NFB philosophy, which is a “work in progress.”

>
> Voin volunteered to prepare lunch selections that meet dietary restrictions, including a vegetarian option. Brad has information, regarding safe transportation of food and serving line setup, to share with Voin, prior to the date. Michelle suggested organizing an ice cream or a cookie decorating activity, after lunch, if time permits. Lunch arrangements, including timeframe, will be verified, during the SAAVI meeting, Saturday, July 20, 2019. Other Phoenix Chapter members may assist with serving and clean-up.

>
>
> Outstanding Lanyards:
>
> Michelle and Brad presented ideas to increase the selling points of the lanyards, during the 2019 NFBA State Convention and the Meet the Blind Month Sing-a-Thon. Michelle suggested that a Commemorative card be placed in the lanyards, and sold as a 2019 NFBA convention souvenir. Brad suggested that the lanyards be promoted, during the Meet the Blind Month Sing-a-Thon fund-raiser, as the perfect, hands-free way to carry an iPhone. Jordan stated that current policy restricts chapters from raising funds, during the state convention, and the best way for the host chapter to keep expenses low is to collect donations and/or charge admission to convention events. It was suggested that the Banquet table decorations be auctioned off. Jordan will contact President Porterfield to verify that this is permissible.
>
>
>
> 2019 NFB National Convention Assistance:
>
> $850.00 of the approved $1,200.00 for 2019 national convention assistance was distributed to seven (7) people, according to need. Therefore, the $350.00 of these funds not distributed for national convention assistance, is available in the chapter treasury for future needs, such as hosting the 2019 NFBA State Convention and for state convention assistance.
>
>
>
> BELL Program Lunch:
>
> To officially sanction the executive decision made by President Brad Kuhn to disburse $75.00 from the Phoenix Chapter treasury to Voin White to cover the cost of purchasing lunch supplies for the BELL Program, a motion was moved and approved. Donna will issue a $75.00 check to Voin, who will submit receipts, for Donna’s records.
>
>
>
> Note: Brad has asked the East Valley Chapter and the West Valley Chapter presidents to contribute $25.00 each towards the cost of the BELL Program lunch supplies, giving our sister-chapters the opportunity to support the BELL Program, and reduce the drain on the Phoenix Chapter Treasury funds.
>
>
>
> Fund-Raising Committee, Nick Fletcher & Mike Smith, Co-Chairs:
>
> Efforts are being made to schedule a fund-raising event at a local Chipotles restaurant, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 10, 2019. Although this date coincides with the quarterly, NFBA State Board meeting, there should not be any adverse conflict. It was noted that the West Valley Chapter recently received funds from a local restaurant that collected a percentage of sales on food and alcohol, over an entire weekend. The committee will research similar opportunities, for future consideration.

>
> New Business:
>
>
>
> Community Outreach Committee, Jordan Moon, Chair:
>
> Jordan intends to schedule the first meeting of this newly formed committee some time in September, after the 2019 NFBA State Convention. The purpose of this committee includes: reaching out to other blind people to grow the NFB family; and educating blind and sighted people about the NFB’s purpose and mission, history and legacy, successful advocacy efforts, programs and services, philosophy and positive attitudes about blindness, by participating in area events. Brad recommended that the committee partner with other NFB divisions, such as the Senior Division, to expand networking opportunities.
>
>
>
> Michelle stated that we should involve ourselves in the community, through volunteer opportunities. She expressed interest in chairing a Community Service Committee.
>
>
>
> 2019 NFBA State Convention Committee Appointments, Brad Kuhn, President:
>
> As Phoenix Chapter president, Brad is to select two members interested in serving on one of the two 2019 NFBA State Convention Committees: one to serve on the Nominating Committee; and the other to serve on the Resolutions Committee. While Brad was not making those appointments during the conference call meeting, he asked that those interested in being considered let him know on which committee they want to serve.
>
>
>
> The Nominating Committee is the only closed meeting of the organization. Members appointed to serve on this committee cannot discuss proceedings or slate of nominees, outside the committee meeting. A chairperson for this committee has not been announced. Colin Wong expressed interest in serving on this committee.
>
>
>
> The Resolutions Committee is co-chaired by Sami Hamed and Jordan Moon. Jordan described the process for developing, submitting, defending, and adopting a resolution. Mike Smith and Colin Wong expressed interest in serving on this committee. Also, Angie Jones wants to learn more about the resolutions process, outside the committee setting, so exchanged contact information with Jordan and Colin.
