Tracy,
I personally don't use a traditional backup program, as my backup needs
are met another way. However, let me answer part of your question. There
is a difference between a program like Ghost and the backup program that
comes with Windows. Ghost is a disk imaging program, not a backup
program persay. It lets you take a snapshot of your system exactly the
way it is, then later restore to that state if necessary. You don't use
ghost for a regular backup of, say, your my documents folder. You use it
to backup your operating system and programs, usually before you've
placed any personal data on the machine. This way, if something goes
wrong and your operating system becomes unuseable, you can get the
system back into a useable state in 10 to 20 minutes instead of it
taking hours. You can also use a standard backup program to backup data
that changes frequently like your documents if you want to do that.
Don't use a traditional backup program to backup your entire operating
system, as things won't work right should you ever need to restore. The
solutions are different, and compliment one another.
