Susie,

I suggested the other list to him because I knew that there were some people there with specific experience with Visual Studio.  I believe the subscribe 
information for that list is

program-l-request at freelists.org

and put subscribe in the subject.  

The address for the other list that you mentioned, which probably has a greater variety of topics is

programmingblind-request at freelists.org

and put the word subscribe in the subject.

It is my impression that the first list tends to be more centered on Microsoft-specific tools and environments, but that is a subjective judgement.
