[nfbcs] Question about IDLE with Braille display

William,

I think that the issue is more with IDLE itself and not with your choice of screen reader on Windows.
IDLE is written using TK which is a UI toolkit for which there is no Windows accessibility support.
A combination of using a text editor to create files of code and using IPython for interactive exploration may serve you better. IPython uses the console window for its output and so JAWS 2018 will speak lines of text as they're written.
If you turn on the JAWS cursor,, route JAWS to PC, and then explore up the screen you'll be able to review lines of output. When you're ready to see what's on the line for input, just turn the PC cursor back on and you'll be positioned there.

Let us know if this combo works as expected.

Subject: [nfbcs] Question about IDLE with Braille display

Hi there,

I am currently learning Python, and using IDLE to write basic strings of code. Once input into the shell, I use my Focus Forty Braille Display to read it. However, I have noticed something that the folks at Freedom Scientific weren't able to answer for me when I gave them a call. Once I press Enter, the display's focus goes back to the top of the window, and I have to thumb key all the way back through everything I've written to get to where I just was. My questions are: are there any ways of making the display stay at the position I left it in to begin with, and or any efficient ways of navigating this type of environment using the tools I have? I'm using JAWS 2018 with the latest software update, and a Focus Forty Blue fifth generation display.

Thanks

William
