I don't have a world of firsthand experience with it, so I'll keep my not so
helpful response on list so that others can clarify anything wrong I write.
When I tried the New Outlook on my older Windows 10 computer, JAWS was not
behaving the way it was supposed to. Commands that should have worked were
not working, and even things like opening an email resulted in my cursor
being thrown to the top of the new window, somewhere above the actual body
of the message. On a newer computer, however, the experience felt more like
what it should have been all along. I have no idea why there's a difference.
I was using the same JAWS version and build at the time. Whether or not this
can be attributed to quirks in JAWS 2025, I couldn't tell you, but in my
personal opinion, even on JAWS 2026, on the newer Windows 11 computer, the
New Outlook just feels ... quirky? That's the best way I can describe it.
For a brief period I actually switched to Thunderbird and liked it much more
than I thought I would. I eventually came back to Outlook Classic, because
although I know its days are numbered, it's still a few years away. Why
upset the cart if its wheels can still roll along more or less okay?

Subject: [NFBCS] Microsoft's New Outlook
Greetings all:
After more than a year of procrastination, I finally decided today to start
familiarizing myself with Microsoft's New Outlook program. This New Outlook
is planned to supersede what Microsoft now calls Outlook Classic such that
support for the Outlook Classic software will be terminated some time in
2029.
Vispero, the company which manufactures and sells the JAWS screen reader,
has already conducted two webinars on the new Outlook with a third webinar
on the New Outlook calendar being presented on Thursday, March 26.
I would be happy to hear from anyone on this list who has experience with
the New Outlook. I have this distinct perception that the nonvisual
interface for screen reader users is far from perfect and even more chaotic
and confusing than the Outlook Classic interface, which has evolved over
literally decades.
I am asking anyone interested in sharing experiences with the New Outlook to
contact me directly-either by email at chong.curtis at gmail.com
<mailto:chong.curtis at gmail.com> or by phone at 515-306-1654.
Thank you kindly for your willingness to share.
Kind regards,
Curtis Chong
