Competencias de la Juventud de la Federación, 2011: una Academia de Liderazgo DERIVADA para estudiantes Ciegos de secundaria
 

 Nos complacemos en anunciar la tercera bienal Competencia de la Juventud. Sea o no "lo tuyo" la ciencia, o la tecnología, por seguro, hay algo que hacer para todo el mundo. Aprende la ciencia detrás de la creación de aplicaciones para tu iPod, utiliza los equipos y la tecnología de lo último para determinar las reacciones químicas en los laboratorios de química, construye robots, o aprende a utilizar técnicas no visuales para llevar a cabo una disección real. Garantizamos que este programa de verano ¡será como ningún otro en el que hayas estado antes!

 

Ciento cincuenta estudiantes ciegos y con baja visión de todo el país serán seleccionados para participar en esta aventura de cinco días, que se llevará a cabo en Baltimore, Maryland, que pondrá en marcha, inspirará y alentará a la próxima generación de jóvenes ciegos a considerar carreras que falsamente se cree, que son imposibles para los ciegos.

 

Durante tu estancia en una ciudad  universitaria, alumnos serán asesorados por modelos de conducta ciegos en actividades divertidas y desafiantes diseñadas para fomentar la confianza y aumentar la cultura científica. Los participantes también tendrán la oportunidad de asistir a estudios sobre temas como el liderazgo, la preparación para la carrera, y la ceguera. Además, los estudiantes y mentores participarán en una variedad de eventos sociales durante toda la semana. ¡Ven a las competencias de la Juventud de la Federación, y conoce a otros estudiantes ciegos y con baja visión de todo los Estados Unidos!

 

Estudiantes interesados, que tengan catorce años de edad en el momento del programa, y están comenzando la escuela secundaria (noveno grado) en el otoño del 2011, o están actualmente en la escuela secundaria (incluyendo los que se gradúan en la primavera del 2011) deben llenar una solicitud en línea. Los estudiantes no necesitan tener un fuerte interés en la ciencia, la tecnología, la ingeniería, o las matemáticas (DERIVADAs) para poder participar, disfrutar y beneficiarse de esta experiencia extraordinaria.

2011 NFB Youth Slam: A STEM Leadership Academy for Blind High School Students 


 

 We are pleased to announce the third biennial NFB Youth Slam.  Whether or not science or technology is "your thing," there's sure to be something for everyone.  Learn the science behind building apps for your iPod, use cutting-edge equipment and technology to determine chemical reactions in chemistry labs, build robots, or learn how to use nonvisual techniques to perform a real dissection.  We guarantee this summer program will be like no other you've ever been to before!  

 

One hundred and fifty blind and low vision students from all across the country will be selected to attend this five-day adventure, to be held in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Baltimore, Maryland, that will engage, inspire, and encourage the next generation of blind youth to consider careers falsely believed to be impossible for the blind. 

 

While staying on a college campus, students will be mentored by blind role models during fun and challenging activities designed to build confidence and increase science literacy.  Participants will also have the opportunity to attend workshops on topics such as leadership, career preparation, and blindness.  In addition, students and mentors will take part in a variety of social events throughout the week.  Come to the NFB Youth Slam and meet other blind and low vision students from all over the United States!

 

Interested students who will be age fourteen at the time of the program, and are starting high school (ninth grade) in the fall of 2011 or are currently in high school (including those graduating in the spring of 2011) should complete an application online. Students need not have a strong interest in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) in order to participate, enjoy, and benefit from this extraordinary experience.
