Compañeros Federacionistas,

  
 El Grupo de Servicios a la Comunidad de la Federación Nacional de Ciegos está buscando su opinión sobre el futuro de nuestro grupo.
 Estamos buscando específicamente pensamientos e ideas para programas, actividades, iniciativas, etc.  ¿Qué es lo que el grupo podría querer llevar a cabo en los próximos
años? ( llámenlo un plan estratégico de cinco años, o una guía.
  Estamos llevando a cabo una conferencia telefónica el próximo martes, 20 de mayo a 9:00 pm Hora del este para hablar de esto, y darles la bienvenida a todos los que deseen discutirlo más a fondo. Información de llamada,
y fondo de lo que somos, que es lo que queremos hacer y cómo queremos hacerlo. Todo esto se puede encontrar a continuación:

 propósito
El propósito del grupo es promover conjuntamente la filosofía positiva de la Federación, y los beneficios de servicio a la comunidad mediante la educación de los ciegos sobre cómo
participar en el servicio, educando a los videntes acerca de las verdaderas capacidades de los ciegos a través de la participación en el servicio, y el fomento de esta participación
en los miembros, capítulos y filiales de la Federación. Reconocemos los efectos positivos de servicio comunitario, y el aprendizaje de servicio con nuestra afirmación de que
el servicio no es sólo un camino hacia el empleo, y una manera de educar, sino que también es una manera de aprender acerca de uno mismo y de los problemas que se enfrentan en la comunidad y en el país de uno.
¿Qué hacemos?
Trabajamos para promover y fomentar el servicio comunitario, y el aprendizaje de servicio a nivel local, estatal y nacional de la Federación, y para avanzar en el objetivo de
la plena integración de los ciegos en base de igualdad. Coordinamos proyectos de servicio que desarrollan la confianza en la ceguera y las técnicas alternas
que los ciegos utilizan, crear talleres y cursos de capacitación que desarrollan líderes competentes, sirven como un recurso para las personas ciegas y videntes  por igual en el campo de servicio
con un énfasis en cómo los ciegos pueden contribuir y promover una filosofía positiva acerca de la ceguera a través de la acción y el servicio.

Lo Que Creemos
A través de estos medios , nuestro objetivo es cambiar la percepción de que los ciegos son receptores pasivos de servicios, en vez de proveedores activos de servicios.

Para ello, tenemos que desafiarnos a nosotros mismos, y a otros a repensar qué tipo de actividades relacionadas con el servicio a los ciegos pueden ver con el entrenamiento básico adecuado y el conocimiento
del proyecto de servicio dado, y las técnicas no visuales adecuadas. Creemos que la adopción de los proyectos que nos permiten mirar más allá de la ceguera es instructivo
tanto para nosotros como para la comunidad. El grupo se nutre con los esfuerzos colectivos de todos los que creen en el servicio, en la Federación Nacional de Ciegos, y en el poder que viene con
la acción colectiva y la creencia de que podemos abordar los problemas más acuciantes de nuestro país junto a nuestros amigos videntes, familias, y vecinos. En última instancia, queremos participar en el servicio, no como personas ciegas, sino como ciudadanos de nuestras comunidades con la capacidad y las ganas de dar de vuelta.
Quién puede participar
Nuestra membresía está formada por personas de todos los niveles de servicio, desde los que tienen una riqueza de experiencia de servicio, hasta los que sirven de vez en cuando, a
aquellos que estén interesados en servir, pero que pueden sentirse nerviosos o inseguros acerca de cómo involucrarse en proyectos o pueden no saber cómo participar. Nos esforzamos
para cumplir con cada uno desde donde están en su experiencia en el servicio, y de servir como un sistema de apoyo de la red, y para aquellos que tienen un interés común en el servicio
de sus comunidades. También buscamos activamente asociaciones de bienvenida y colaboraciones con agencias, organizaciones e individuos que comparten nuestra filosofía
y nuestra creencia en la capacidad de los ciegos de participar en el servicio comunitario.

 The Community Service Group of the National Federation of the  Blind is looking for your input on the future of our group.
 We are   specifically looking for thoughts/ideas  for programs, activities, initiatives, etc  the group might want to  undertake over the next several years (  call it a five-year strategic plan or road map.
 We  are holding a conference call  Next Tuesday, May 20  at 9pm Eastern time to discuss this, and welcome all who wish to discuss further. Call-in information  and background on who we are, what we want to do, and how we want to do it can all be found below:

 Purpose
The purpose of the group is to promote jointly the positive philosophy of the NFB and the benefits of community service by educating the blind about how to become involved in service, educating the sighted about the true abilities of the blind via involvement in service, and encouraging such involvement in members, chapters, and affiliates of the NFB. We acknowledge the positive effects of community service and service learning with our assertion that service is not only a path to employment and a way to educate, but also a way to learn about oneself and the issues faced in one's community and country.
What We Do
We work to promote and encourage community service and service learning at the local, state, and national levels of the NFB and to advance the goal of full integration for the blind on the basis of equality. We coordinate service projects that develop confidence in blindness and the alternative techniques that the blind use, create workshops and trainings that develop competent leaders, serve as a resource for the blind and sighted alike about the service field with an emphasis on how the blind can contribute, and promote a positive philosophy of blindness through action and service.
What We Believe
Through these means, we aim to change the perception that the blind are passive recipients of service rather than active providers of service. In order to do this, we must challenge ourselves and others to rethink what service-related activities the blind can do with the proper basic training and understanding of the given service project and the proper non-visual techniques. We believe that taking on projects that allow us to look beyond blindness is instructive both for ourselves and the community. The group thrives with the collective efforts of all who believe in service, the NFB, and the power that comes with collective action and the belief that we can address our country's most pressing problems alongside our sighted friends, family, and neighbors. Ultimately, we wish to participate in service not as blind people, but as citizens of our communities with the ability and desire to give back.
Who Can Get Involved
Our membership consists of people at all levels of service, from those who have a wealth of service experience, to those who serve from time to time, to those who are interested in serving but may feel nervous or uncertain about getting involved in projects or may not know how to get involved. We strive to meet everyone where they are in their service experience and to serve as a network and support system for those who have a common interest in serving their communities. We also actively seek and welcome partnerships and collaborations with agencies, organizations, and individuals who share our philosophy and our belief in the ability of the blind to participate in community service.
