Veterans’ Bridge To Work Initiative 
Employment and Training Program  for Veterans and  
Wounded Warriors Who Are Blind or  Visually Impaired  
With thousands of  veterans living in the Washington, DC metropolitan area 
who are visually  impaired and blind, many require additional assistance and 
services to secure  and maintain employment. Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind, 
serving the blind  and visually impaired, created the Veterans’ Bridge to Work 
Initiative to  address these unmet needs. Indeed, employment is essential to 
maintaining  independence for those who are visually impaired or blind and 
Columbia  Lighthouse for the Blind is here to help!  
The  Veterans’ Bridge to Work Initiative will:  
Ensure that veterans  who are visually impaired or blind that want to be 
employed  •  have the skills,  resources and training they need to succeed.  
Increase the  placement of these veterans into jobs. •  
Suite of Services  
The Veterans’ Bridge  to Work Initiative will supply high quality and 
effective workforce  development training services to veterans who are visually 
impaired or blind  ensuring that they are “job ready.” Services include:  
Low Vision Care  •   
Career Assessments  •   
Assistive Technology  Assessments and Training •  
Resume Writing and  Skill Building •   
Interviewing  Practice •   
Job Development,  Placement and Retention •  
Computer Training  •   
Orientation and  Mobility Training •   
Independent Living  Skills •   
Case  Management •
