Fellow Federation members,

I just wanted you all to know that I thought the conference call among
leaders of the NFB of Florida, the ACB of Florida, FAASB, the Blind
Veterans, and DBS went very well. We are working on a position paper which
can be supported by all groups, stating our strong views that Florida's
Division of Blind Services must remain a separate organization, with its own
personnel and funding.

I realize that, being as the announcement about the call was posted on our
lists, some of you may have been looking for the code to call into the
conference call. We id not distribute that code to everyone, simply because
we needed to limit the number of persons on the call. I can assure you that
the NFB of Florida was more than adequately represented.

Since last night, I have spoken with Joann Wilson in Baltimore. She assures
me that, although we should prepare our document, lets our position and
needs known, and remain vigilant, we have Federal law on our side. In order
for the State of Florida to receive needed funding from the Federal
Government, it mush have an agency dedicated to serving the blind of
Florida.

We will keep you posted on further developments.

Thank you all for your support.

Dan Hicks
