Subj: Voter Accessibility Task Force Update
The first meeting of the Voter Accessibility Task Force was a very
positive start. Attached to this email is the power point presentation and a fact
sheet on Accessible Voting Solutions for Floridians. For those unable to
attend the meeting this will help you better understand where we are heading
with an alternative voting solution for voters with disabilities.
What's next? We agreed that we would have a meeting this Fall to review
final implementation of the eLect Today voting alternative. The main task
that we want members of the Task Force to accomplish is to recruit voters from
within your organization(s) and within the disability community to sign-up
for this alternative method of voting during the three elections in 2012.
For our next meeting we are going to create a special demo ballot that will
be sent to you electrically, will mail you your password, ask you to vote
the ballot and mail it back in the postage paid envelope we will send you.
At the meeting we will announce the results and discuss feedback on the
process. Then we'll load you up with details on how a person signs up to use
this alternative method of voting in 2012.
We still do not know the exact date for the Florida Presidential
Preference Primary or the Primary Election. Will keep you posted on what the
Legislature does or doesn't do.
Please save October 11th for this next Task Force Meeting. The Task Force
Meeting will be in conjunction with the monthly meeting of the County ADA
Advisor Board. Samme Ripley and I are still discussing what time to meet. We
are looking at either 1 to 3 PM (traditional meeting time of the ADA
Advisory Board), or 4:30 to 6:30 PM (after work but before getting home) or 6:30
to 8:30 PM (like our first meeting). If you have an opinion or choice on
time, feel free to email me with your choice.
Thanks you for all your support, input, and feedback. Will email you a
meeting reminder with specifics closer to the meeting date.
Sincerely,
Bill Cowles
Orange County Supervisor of Elections
