I was asked to post this on our list. It actually sounds like fun if you are
into fishing, food or winning money.

Subject: 2ND Annual SWFCB Blind Fishing Tournament!!
Hi Sheri, Can you please post this on the NFB's list?
Thanks,...Mike
The Southwest Florida Council of the Blind (SWFCB) will hold it's 2ND Annual
Blind Fishing Tournament on Saturday April 27, 2013!
This years tournament will once again be based out of the Old Pine Island
Marina; 3187 Stringfellow Rd. St. James City, Florida! At the South end of
Pine Island, just west of Fort Myers!
This year, the SWFCB is offering a $500.00 grand prize to be awarded to the
winning team's blind angler!! Enticing! Isn't it?
This is a three person team based inshore slam tournament, Redfish and Sea
Trout (We will also add Snook if they do open up the season).
Each team will consist of a sighted captain (who volunteers their boat along
with their captaining skills). A sighted mate (To assist the blind angler).
and of course, the blind angler (Each team can only enter fish caught by
that team's blind angler).
Each team's sighted mate and blind angler will pay a $25.00 entry fee each.
If you want to fish in this tournament, you do not have to know someone with
a boat! We can hook you up with a team with a captain and or a sighted mate!
Or you can fish with your own sighted mate, or captain too, if you know of
one!
The teams will leave the marina at 8:00 am sharp and get out on the water
and fish until 1:00 pm. This is the deadline and there just might be a race
to get back in! Each team can only enter one fish in each species, the
biggest legal keeper fish! So if there's a tie in the weight and
measurement, it goes to the first boat in!!
>From 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm-We will weigh an measure the fish and declare the
winners and present the prizes! We'll have ton's of prizes! Trust me, most
people will go home with a prize! Nice guy, Huh?
Then from 2:00 to about 5:30- We'll sit down to a good old fashioned Florida
Style cookout! With all the fix'ins! I mean a ton of really great food!
Hungry yet?
We'll have the world famous Yard Dog Charlie! Playing what he calls "Florida
Swamp Music"! (A mix of Southern Rock and Zydeco!).
Safety Dance Anyone? Feats don't fail me now! LOL!
All people participating in this fishing tournament get the food and
entertainment with the price of their entry fee.
We are working with a local beer distributor and are hoping to get a one day
only Non Profit permit to sell oat soda at this tournament! We will probably
get a lot of John Q. Public coming out to hear Charlie! So we'll be selling
food for $5.00 per plate and hopefully the beer too!
Turn up the fun dial now!
We will also have many cool things that we will raffle off too!
And we're thinking of setting up our blind obstacle course again! We did
this at the 2012 Vision Awareness Walk A Thon and it was a ton of fun and a
big hit! A real crowd pleaser!
If anyone on this list is interested in competing in this one of a kind (And
may I say big time fun!) fishing tournament, please shoot me an email or
give me a call.
I will need to know about how many out of towners will be competing, so I
can seek a great price on a group rate at a local hotel or resort.
Heck! Stay for the weekend and see paradise and the Gulf Coast beauty of
Southwest Florida!!
Also please keep in mind, if you are going to be fishing in this
tournament, you will need a current State of Florida Saltwater Fishing
license. If you are legally blind, you can apply for a free fishing license,
but this will take about a month and a half to process and for you to
receive it in the mail.
If you are 65 or over, you do not need a fishing license.
Also please note: Lee County does have Para Transit service(LeeTran
Passport). So if you are coming over here to fish in the tournament, you
might want to get the 21 day temporary service through Passport. I can help
you with getting that.
Para Transit will not go out to Pine Island, where the tournament is based
out of. So we have volunteer drivers to take people out to the marina and if
your nice and promise to have fun, even take you back!! Thoughtful! Huh?
We also have a Greyhound bus station right in the main LeeTran bus station
in downtown Fort Myers.
So check your schedules and pencil it in! Saturday April 27, 2013!
Big time Prizes! Big time fun! Big time food! Big time music! And God willin
and the creek don't rise, Big time fish!!!
Thanks much!.....Mike
