My apologies, I didn't mean to top with stuffing mix...only the cheese.

Yes, mix the seasoning mix along with the stuffing and other ingredients into the casserole dish.  Do not include the cheese, that goes on afte the casserole has been baked.

Do you mix the stuffing mix in as well?  In the beginning It says to top with stuffing mix.
