Dear Sherri: 

On Saturday morning, a domestic terrorist using a military-style assault weapon killed 20 people and wounded 26 at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas.  Early Sunday morning, another domestic terrorist using an assault rifle with a 100 round magazine killed nine people and injured 26 more during a mass shooting in a Dayton, Ohio nightclub. This weekend in Chicago, 3 more people were killed and another 37 were injured in multiple shooting incidents.

This is not the America that we want to live in with our family and friends, and together, we can do something positive now to reduce gun violence.

Congress needs to get back to work NOW and do their jobs addressing the bloodshed on our streets and in our communities. We know that "thoughts and prayers" from our lawmakers will not stop the epidemic of gun violence in our country.

1) You are a constituent.

2) You Support a Ban on Assault Weapons and High Capacity Magazines (H.R. 1296/S. 66) (H.R. 1186/S. 447).

3) You Support prohibiting people convicted of violent hate crimes from acquiring or possessing firearms after conviction. (Disarm Hate Act H.R. 2708/S. 1462) 

4) You Support the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act (H.R.1236/S. 506). (ERPO) a law to enable family members and law enforcement to petition a court for a temporary order prohibiting a person from purchasing or possessing firearms.

5) You Support National Licensing & Registration of Handguns (S. 1884).

We know these proven approaches will help reduce gun violence. We also know that Congress can and must do something now. 

Many lawmakers in Washington are counting on people across the country to accept their "thoughts and prayers" and think that in a few days things will die down and return to normal.
