A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog post about Narrator on Windows 10, but I may not have been clear on how to actually get started with it. Below are a few tips for using Narrator:
If you have JAWS or NVDA running, close them first.
After all other screen readers are closed, press Control Windows Enter to start Narrator.
On recent versions of Windows 10, a tutorial will start the first time you start Narrator. If it does, that tutorial will tell you how to navigate with Narrator. In case you can’t access the tutorial, the below commands should help.
If you are in programs such as Word or Outlook, you can use the arrow keys to move round like normal and Tab/Shift Tab to navigate dialogs.
If the arrow keys or Tab/Shift Tab don’t work to navigate a program, you can hold down Caps Lock and use the arrow keys. Up and Down arrow switches between words, characters, lines, items, ETC. Left or Right Arrow moves by whatever you have it set to.
When you are on a web page, Caps Lock or Insert F7 opens the Links List.
You can use the same letter commands as in JAWS such as H or Shift H to move by heading.
