Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
When I was a paid journalist in the eighties and nineties I learned hard lessons. I learned never to trust pro forma any public information/relations person, whether for state or other governmental agencies, or for corporate interests. Not to say they were all bad or all liars all of the time. But, it is to say fact check everything from these wonks.
The tendency of them all is to try to spoon feed to the media the current "party line", or to "spin" or to otherwise controvert things. In short they often lie whether by ommisission or commision.
It's kind of inthe general job description.
When I finally got down and dirty and attended college for my degreein communications, after years of being in the field and being of a sort of older school I noted distinct differences in approaches to news stories.
Many, especially in the business journals I worked for (the staffers that is) simply engaged in what I call press release journalism.
Many actually wenton to careers in corporations and other places I'd rather not think about or admit to even though at one time these were once called collegues and pals.
