From: Stewart Prost, Logistics Coordinator
NFBV State Convention
Greetings all,
We have just completed the largest NFBV State Convention ever with 265
people registered! Now that we have had a week to recover and get back to
normal, I wanted to express my appreciation to all those who worked with me
to make this convention a success. I first want to remind all of you that
this is the first time I have taken on the task of running all of the
logistics of such a large endeavor. I have learned a lot over the weekend
which will help me to better prepare for next year. There are a huge
number of people that I wish to thank. It is hard to remember everyone, so
I apologize in advance if I forget anyone! (I am getting old and it can be
hard to keep everything straight ! LOL) So here are my thank yous:
* Jacki Bruce-The Queen of registration! Jacki and her team have been
working hard on setting up our convention registration and making it all
work. She started this process in August and worked until just before the
banquet. Our paid meal events have increased this year from four to seven.
Quite a task to keep everyone's registrations straight. Jacki also fielded
a number of questions and issues which she either dealt with, or sent the
questions to others (such as me!)
* Teisha Gillespie-Promoter Extraordinaire! With very little time,
Teisha put together the Thursday night Hot Bites Dinner which turned out
great! Teisha also coordinated all of our exhibitors and sponsors, as well.
This year, for the first time, we had exhibits on both Friday and Saturday
afternoons. Teisha sent out emails promoting our convention prior to its
start.
* Renee Valdez-Floor Manager-Renee made sure that our General Sessions
ran smoothly. She was detailed and thorough, running around all over the
meeting room.
* Jade Ham and team-Jade and their team of helpers made it possible
for everyone to hear discussions, presenters, performers, accompanying music
for those performers, and choosing musical introductions for the presenters.
In addition to setting up all of the audio for our programs, Jade and their
team had to haul heavy equipment into the bus in Northern Virginia, haul the
equipment out of the bus into the hotel, back on the bus, and out of the bus
in Northern Virginia.
* Jackie Brown and the Action Auction Team-Jackie and her team of
auctioneers made auction items interesting and the auction fun. They made
it easy tor people to part with their money! I also want to thank those
people who helped Jackie and her team move auction items from the "office"
to the General Session, then to the exhibit area, and back to the "office"
storage area for safekeeping.
* Joe Orosco-Thank you for your guidance and sharing your experience.
* President Tracy Soforenko for sharing ideas and details I had not
thought about
* Jessica Reed, Meal Captain-Jessica made sure that all of the people
taking meal tickets were in place. Also, a big shout out to everyone who
agreed to take meal tickets, including during the banquet!
* Chesapeake Bay President Annie Ascher and member of our host chapter
with special shout outs:
* Karen Brown Prize Maven-Karen took on this responsibility fully and
made the drawing of door prizes fun and exciting.
* Terri Green who organized chapter members as marshals/ambassadors.
This was her first time taking on this responsibility. She took this on
with energy and conviction. I also thank all those chapter members who
answered the call to direct our members to our general sessions and other
convention events.
* Mary Durban who ran herself ragged taking on many important tasks!
To numerous to mention.
* Thank you to the members of the Chesapeake Bay Chapter for putting
on an excellent hospitality event, I know people really enjoyed it.
* I want to recognize individuals not part of the NFB who helped to
make this convention a success:
* Claire, Camilla, and Genaveve from Delta Gamma Sorority from the
College of William & Mary who many of you make it to your rooms on Thursday
afternoon.
* Jamie Elliott, Head of Catering for the Wyndham Virginia Beach
Oceanfront Hotel for her presence during our convention and her willingness
to respond when I needed to reach out to her.
I want to thank all of you who came to Virginia Beach and participated in
our convention. I want to thank all of you for your patience, cooperation,
and your willingness to help out which contributed to another successful
convention.
Last, but not least, I want to thank my wife, Deborah for her patience and
support before and during the convention.
If I missed anybody, you know who you are and please know you all have my
appreciation and gratitude!
