[NFBV-Announce] Member to Member, let's get to know each other, James Watkins

Hi NFB Family and Friends,

 

Welcome to another edition of member to member. Today we'll get to know
James Watkins, from our Greater Williamsburg Chapter. James has been a part
of our NFBV Family for about 2 years now "I go to the same church as Deborah
Jackson. She told me and my wife, Valerie, about the Williamsburg Chapter.
When we visited, we liked the group so we joined." James is big into our
community; he has been involved with our outreach committee and with our
fundraising committee. "I would like to see our chapter get more involved in
our community, I'd like to teach more people about blindness and how to
treat people who are blind ."

 

James is from New Jersey; he came to Virginia in 2019. He worked for General
Motors for 30 years and loved it, "sometimes it felt like I spent more time
at GM than I did at home" James says with a chuckle. James served in the
military, he was in the Navy. "I traveled all over in the military and I'd
like to go back to Europe and explore  it more; People aren't as crazy over
there as they are in the USA." He has been married to Valerie for 57 years
"my favorite memories are getting married to Valerie and the birth of our
children!" Speaking of children, James has 2 a son and a daughter. He also
has 2 grand children, a grandson and a granddaughter. "My travel dream is to
go to the Motherland, Africa and see my granddaughter." 

 

James thinks people would be surprised to know he's such a jokester! "I'm
very handsome" James boasts as he laughs and laughs.

 

If I could travel to any time, I'd go to the future, come back and tell all
of these wackos what's going to happen in this crazy world!" If  James had
one wish, he'd want more unity in this world "we are all God's children and
we need to be more united!" James would love to have one more dinner with
his Mother, "she gave me life and wisdom!"
