A number of activities are being planned for the coming year. All of these activities will need interested people to help out in a number of ways. A committee is organized to help and if anyone wants to participate on the committee please let us know. It is very exciting the plans we have to work with blind children, blind youth and families with blind children. This committee is a response to a discussion this past spring to encourage young blind people to become more active in the NFB of WA. In addition, budget cutbacks have greatly limited the programs which DSB Child and Family program has had in recent years. So put these dates on your calendar.
October 2, 3, and 4 NFBWA State Convention Everett Downtown Holiday Inn
Mentors needed to work with blind youth who are being encouraged to attend. Special activities for young blind people are being planned.

November 14 Braille Readers are Leaders Braille Reading Program Kick Off Wa. Talking Book and Braille Library Seattle
People to help with a Braille carnival and to mentor participants as they work on Braille reading skills to encourage a love of reading.

April 16 and 17 Empowerment Through Literacy for Families of Blind Children and Blind Youth Ages 14 to 19 Everett Downtown Holiday Inn
Participants needed to mentor families and to help with a concurrent Youth seminar.
I am excited that Dr. Fred Schroeder, a leader in the education of blind children and First Vice President of the NFB will attend. In addition, we are hoping to have the president of the National Organization of the Parents of Blind Children.

Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Any questions or comments can be sent through the list or privately to Denise Mackenstadt at cane.travel at gmail.com. I look forward to your responses.
