Congratulations. That was really good work! The friendship your building will last for years! I admit that I miss the US system. Our parliamentary system is much more complex. You have to convince the ruling party, not just an individual legislator. Individual legislators can introduce what are called private member bills, but they very rarely pass. Unless the ruling party picks them up, they’re dead on arrival. The opposition party can sometimes modify bills introduced by the ruling party, but any bill they introduce is likely to fail because Parties don’t want to support bills proposed by the opposition.British Columbia has three parties in the legislature. No, four. The party my representative belongs to has exactly 2 members in the house. The parliamentary system is good, too, but it’s very different. Again, congratulations.

She listened to our issues with an attentive and interested attitude. We were particularly pleased that she came to Sequim clear from Bremerton to meet with us. She was scheduled to meet with us for a half hour but stayed for forty-five minutes. She was particularly interested in our newly submitted bill HR 447, Transformation to Competitive and Integrated Employment, subminimum wage elimination. Rep Randall was particularly instrumental in eliminating subminimum wages in Washington State when she was in the state Senate. She worked closely with Marci Carpenter and the NFBW. This meeting shows how important it is to have a personal relationship with our representatives, Federal and State. Many times, you need to be persistent to get to the right person to set something like this up. It took me 3 months with emails and phone calls.
