[Ag-eq] Quiet list

Fi,
I ride western and huntseat. I am not as comfortable with hunt
seat. I used to show, but since I
don't ride anymore I can't. Also, the people around here don't
think I can be safe in a class with other riders. They want me
to ride by myself, which isn't really fun for me or my horse, I'm
sure. When I did ride, I rode quarter horses. I've ridden an
Arab before and I found that that horse tested my patience a
little.
I'm having issues now with convincing people that I can
participate equally in lab courses. I feel really included in my
chemistry lab, but the lio lab staff is very difficult to
convince.
I'm just getting started on this journey, but this looks like a
fun and exciting trip!

Aleeha:
I too am very interested in alternative medicine. I have had
chiropractic work
and massage therapy done on the mules. One of the massage
therapists taught me
some things to do with the mules and they seem to really like it.
I especially
notice a big difference in my molly mule. She injured a tendon
over a year ago
and is still lame on and off. My other mule is 28 and just
enjoys the massage;
he doesn't want me or the therapest to stop!
Transportation is often one of the biggest issues when it comes
to horses. I
used to take long bus rides and then walk a good distance just to
get to my
riding lesson! Now I'm lucky enough to have a small horse
property and all I
have to do is walk outside!
I sure hope you can figure out some way to get to the stable.
What kind of riding do you do?
I just trail ride, nothing fancy. Neither of the mules are
capable of long
difficult rides, so I'm reduced to borrowing horses. My
boyfriend has 6
horses, 2 of which I can ride and my neighbor has a wonderful TWH
gelding that
I can borrow any time. I'm also taking lessons again and am
using my
instructors horse. Riding all these different animals has helped
me become a
better rider.
Please keep us posted on your vet school adventures and finding a
place to ride.
Nella
Hi Nella,
I hope to do a lot of acupuncture and other alternative
therapies like
that, but I am not totally sure yet what I will specialize in.
Most of my
experiences in school have been positive, but there have been a
couple of
occasions when I have had to convince a professor that I can
participate
with everyone else in the lab courses and that I will not hurt
myself.
I really miss riding and am trying to find someone around
here who has
a stable and is willing to work with me. The problem is that I
can't get to
the stable that I am looking at now. It's about ten minutes
outside of town,
and the only transportation I can find to get there is a taxi,
which will
get really expensive.

Aleeha:
are you currently in vet school, or are you still doing the pre
vet classes?
Do you plan on specializing in a certain area of equine
medicine?
It is hard to find a good equine vet; I've used several
different ones over
the years. I currently use 2 different clinics. My favorite
vet works
alone, so isn't always available in an emergency, that is why I
use 2, some
one can get here if needed.
I would love to hear more about your experiences in school. I
know you used
to ride, are you still able to do that?

Hi,
Not driving might be a problem, yes, but that is only a small
obstacle. I've read about a blind doctor who did surgeries, so
I
think I'll be OK. I know of some vets who don't drive a lot, so
it
may not be as big of a problem as I am thinking it could be.

Hello Aleeha,
More power to you for becoming a vet. there are many blind
doctors
and they usually do a lot of consulting. I would think that not
driving would be a problem. How will you do surgery?
