Hi Michelle,

The whole idea behind Clinton Anderson's approach is that you keep the
pressure on until the horse relaxes and then you take the pressure off.

If you move away when she gets nervous you are reinforcing her fears not
lessening them.  What you do is put on the pressure and wait until she
relaxes then you take the pressure off and praise her.

I am training my white shepherd Walker to be my next guide dog and this
technique works on dogs too.  When he was little he would spoof at cars
going by so one day we just sat on the side of the road and I waited for him
to just relax and not react to the cars any more then I praised him and we
went home.

Come to think of it, this would work with children too.
