Jody:

Do either of the horses currently have names and do you know what breed they
are?

How old is the bay?

Do you know if they were abused or just neglected?

Do you know how tall they are.

The 2 year old will certainly grow more; horses don't stop growing until they
are 5 or 6. If they were starved at a young age they may not grow quite as
much. and it will take them some time to develop muscle.

It is good that you have a few acres for them to move around on; it's so much
more healthy than being stalled. Do you know what type of grass is on your
land?

I don't know about there, but here there are a few weeds that can be harmful to
horses. The riding instructor would probably know and maybe she could check
out your pasture if needed.

I see barrels on craigs list all the time. One of the local feed stores
carries them as well.

I thought you all would have a lot of hay there. Is there usually a hay
shortage or is it just this year?

Our local live stock auction sells tack before the horses go. I've been told
you can buy saddles and such very cheap there. I've only went to the auction
once and I don't want to go back. There were so many old, sick and under
weight horses, it upset me. The kill buyers were there and then they take them
over the boarder to Mexico. The slaughter houses are terrible and inhumane
there.

If you're a stronger person than me, the auction is a good place to buy cheap
tack.

Take care.

Nella
