Aug 18, 2019 meeting was held at the Akron Library, 11 am
Dave called the meeting to order and roll call was taken by Stephanie.  A total of 14 members attended in addition to 2 new guests.  Sherri Albers from the Cincinnati Chapter also vistited.

Dave led the One Minute Message for the NFB. The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.

President's remarks:
Dave talked about the announcement that Walmart has officially rolled out nationwide Script Talk audible prescription labels as a free service.

Dave also announced that Andra Stover will serve as Akron Chapter vice president til end of 2020. She accepter the appointment and a vote was taken, and unanimously passed.

October 12 from 12-4 Cincinnati will hold a Vision Fair to showcase accomplishments of blind people in the area.

Secretary Report: The June 2019 Chapter minutes were approved by Ken and 2nd by Pat, everyone approved.   The July 19 meeting was our chapter picnic and there were no minutes.

Treasurer Report: Pat confirmed the balance on July 1 was $92.98.  Deposits for $70 for dues paid at the June meeting by 14 members.  Also deposited on July 23 $80 for money that was collected at the picnic: ($20 dues, an $20 in donations at picnic) and $40 from Jessica's friend Carol who donated money to the Chapter.  There were no expenses. Total ending balance $242.98.
Committee Reports:
Publicity and Social Media: Dave discussed the use of Facebook with updates and our page continues to grow we have 29 likes so far!

Newsline Committee: Pat discussed the Newsline and updated members to use free sources that are available.

Outreach Committee: Andra will be holding a conference call on Wed at 7 pm to discuss our next steps for community events.  Our group will work to promote Meet the Blind Month which is in October as well as October 15 which is White Cane Awareness Day.

Fundraising Committee: Dave announced our 1st fundraiser on October 3rd at Beef o Brady's in Stow, 12-8 pm.  They will give us 20% of the proceeds we bring in.  More info to follow at the next meeting.

State Convention Committee: Pat and Andra gave details for the State Convention Nov 1- Nov 3 as well as updates on registration. Deadline to register for the Hotel is October 11 @ $89/night.  Everyone must register for the convention by October 24, send registration form or register online.  Pat also talked about the chapter donation for a BBQ Basket, and any other raffle/door prizes.  We would need assistance from the group for getting the donations before the convention.

Also, we discussed the opportunity to have a table at the convention to sell wrist bands as a fundraiser.  Dave is working with local printer to design.

Sherri Albers requested our chapter assist at the Registration  Table throughout the Convention.  She will have details for us as we get closer.

Events Committee: Colleen shared we are still searching for a location to host our next Sept meeting since the Library will not be available.  More info to follow.

Membership Committee: Stephanie read the NFB Pledge with the group.  Sheri talked to the group about what the pledge means to members vs the One Minute Message and its purpose.

Other Business:  Sheri Albers gave an update on the current State Legislation that she is involved in for the NFB working with State Reps on the Guide Dog bill and the Prescription bill and its progress.

Important Dates:
August 19 State Rep visits in Akron, Andra and Dave to attend.
Next meeting will be Sept 21 -meeting location to be announced.
October 19 meeting at Library - room 1 - 11 am.
November 1, 2, 3 State Convention in Columbus
November 16 meeting at Library - room 1 - 11 am
