SoCal, as in Southern California?

I have a fairly good vibe about Lions Club's Camp here in Georgia. They offer special camp opportunities for blind children. I think one of these years pretty soon, Kendra (age 10) might be old enough to go to one. It is hard to know how old "old enough" is. I'm speaking more of personal impression from talking to some people who are involved in the running of the camp and I have spoken with them many times over about 10 years at various different events, and when they volunteer down at Center for the Visually Impaired, etc. Our group here has the sort of people who volunteer and show up, year after year, and they are super nice and very patient with children.

Georgia may be a bit far to go for you, but I see that there is a Lions Camp in Wrightwood California which is apparently 90 min from L.A., and there are probably others Lions camps around the area. They seem to offer targeted camps for groups of kids with hearing issues, vision issues, and various special needs applications.

I can't give them an "official" recommendation, but I expect they may be worth further investigation.
