The semantic entropy which exists in the audio domain is significantly  less, with respect to resolution of the human ear, than that
which exists in the visual domain. The reason I use entropy, in the information theory sense of the word E.G. Shannon theory, is
because that's quantifiable.

Thus, if we accept the above to be true, there is more redundancy built into the visual domain to allow folks to still get the fact
that something is a rose, something is a door, something is a flower ... Even with less chromatic resolution than another observer.

In the audio domain, similar tricks can be used, but it all depends on how sounds are constructed so as to avoid destructive
interference, forward sounds drowning out lesser ones behind them, volume differentials affecting the user's perception, etc, etc.

Also, if you examine the  problem from a cognitive science and acoustic perception point of view, you realize that the brain
dedicates significant multiples more circuitry to vision than to hearing, even taking into account the repurposing that occurs in
certain tasks; for example, visualization of calculus lighting up the visual cortex even though the calculus is presented
auditoraly.

Sorry, I didn't have a lot of time to expand on some of the points I made here, but psychoacoustics research is quite fascinating,
and when you combine it with cognitive science and neurology, it's a heck of a lot of fun.

Do you think hearing slightly different is somewhat similar to in the visual world to color deficiencies?

Actually color sonification  hasn't disappeared at all, and is incorporated into various research projects.

Cool, but most of this stuff goes by the wayside once the researcher gathers data, writes his research paper/dissertation, and moves
on. This similar sound thing was being presented as the greatest thing for the blind in relation to colors but eventually that
disappeared too as people lost interest. Thanks for the explanation.

Actually, Sonification is the use of non-speech audio to convey information.

In the case of Graphs, researchers currently try to manipulate some parameters of sound like loudness, pitch, frequency, and tempo
with a bid to represent the differences between two or more data.

It is quite an evolving field that is witnessing lots of research at the moment.
